Seattle – February 28, 2013. The AreaMax, Evluma’s premier LED luminaire for security and area lighting, is currently in production with samples and evaluation programs in place with over 100 utilities across the USA. Affordable and easy to install, the 40W AreaMax features a built-in photocontrol failsafe mode eliminating photocontrol maintenance visits. With approximately .01 footcandles at 4 mounting heights, the 93 lm/W fixture offers a choice of color temperatures and optics including a full cut-off model with zero uplight (U0). The AreaMax is designed for new installations, or where retrofitting existing 100W-175W HID fixtures may not be the preferred option.
In July and August of 2012 Evluma sent demo units to 20 different utilities for review as part of a research process designed to find out what utility customers were looking for in an LED area light. “The switch to an LED light source has eliminated the multiple HID bulb and ballast change outs once required during the life of a fixture. The photocontrol was the final weak link in the maintenance story,” said David Tanonis, VP of Sales and Marketing at Evluma. “The photocontrol failsafe mode specifically addresses this concern.” An internal processor calibrates the AreaMax to its specific geographic times for sunrise and sunset indicated by the photocontrol. When and if the photocontrol fails, the AreaMax will take over based on the data it has collected, says the company.
AreaMax owners can also purchase ConnectLED, a software application that operates using Bluetooth Smart to commission/decommission the fixture, create fixture specific brightness settings, and upload custom dimming algorithms. ConnectLED runs on Windows 7 with the use of a dongle and is sold in 25 unit license packs. The AreaMax slides onto the existing pole arm typically used by NEMA Type V dusk-till-dawn fixtures and is compatible with NEMA standard and wireless twist–lock photocontrols. The 120-277VAC AreaMax also features a replaceable high capability surge protection module for 20kV/10kA.
Having worked with LEDs and LED management software since 1995, Evluma designed their own driver technology, LED light engine, and software for the AreaMax. “The AreaMax is an extension of the craftsmanship and superior design we’ve brought to the Clearlight family,” said Keith Miller, President and CEO of Evluma. “Launched in 2008, Clearlights are known as the reliable LED retrofit for HID dusk-till-dawn fixtures.” Evluma offers a 5 year warranty on all their products.
